A Creative Home Office Built-In Cabinet

I'm beyond smitten with the stand alone Pacific Palisades home office that invites and encourages creativity with an eclectic mix of furnishings and a fabulously complex built in cabinet storage wall. Would you like a little look into my design process and how I went about pulling this together? Of course you do!

Where we started with this was a blank white room. It was lacking pizzazz. It was lacking color. It was lacking storage. How could anyone be expected to get work done in this bland space? Along with the challenge of the back wall having both a bump out and an HVAC cooling system we couldn't move and had to work around.

The first thing I did after taking careful measurements of the room was to work out the storage built-in in a 3D model to make sure the visuals were clearly communicated to the client. I had a vision for a colorblocked cabinetry and walls combo in a reassuring tone of blue with walnut wood accents for both contrast and to highlight the midcentury origins of the home's architecture.

Once the cabinetry design was approved I did two things simultaneously.
1) Detail the build requirements for the cabinet maker.
2) Flesh out the furnishings scheme pulling from some existing pieces in the main house for reuse and new items to include.

Once we had a solid plan in motion, careful steps were taken to execute the install(s) and coordinate the steps between the various vendors (painter, cabinet maker, mover). I can honestly say I'm smitten with the results. The built-in cabinet is beyond. Now the home office reads energetic, saturated, funky, and vibrant. Good design supporting good work.
