A Fireplace Reimagined

What if you ended up with a fireplace with nothing technically wrong with it, but its somehow missing the mark? You don't want to start from scratch, the tile work is nice, but it just doesn't feel like you?

Well friends, that's where the owners of this charming Craftsman on the walk streets of Venice found themselves. Don't worry, as soon as Natalie laid her eyes on it, she knew how to make it better without a major headache as well as create an entire moment out of the back wall.

By keeping the gas insert and tile face around the existing fireplace but updating the mantel with a chunky marble surround, a budget friendly solution was offered. Adding shiplap paneling along the back wall for subtle interest and coastal detailing and painting the paneling and existing ceiling beams the lightest of blue grays, now we have a true point of interest.

New inside mount window shades allows the architectural details oof the back wall to shine. Mixing in vintage furnishings with new grounds the living space. With this fireplace makeover under our belts, we took a swing at the bedroom fireplace too. Taking it from the 80s monolithic to the playful present.

This was accomplished by using leftover bathroom countertop marble for the mantel and adorable zellige mosaic tile for the surround and hearthstone. A little bit more involved than the work in the living room due to the coordination between the tiler and the stone fabricator, yet so worth the effort.
