The Edgy Side of Serena & Lily

Updated: Oct 21, 2018

Most of my clients are surprised and some even resistant when I suggest sourcing from Serena & Lily. They automatically think "preppy" and "nautical" which is true for some of course. But I have found that Serena & Lily can also totally nail modern bohemian with solidly built pieces. I pepper their products into my modern interiors to make them feel softer. All. The. Time.

You would never believe that this glamorous Beverly Hills living room has an item from Serena & Lily, yet it does. The thick modern rug is the beautiful Niles rug.

I doubled down hard in this modern beachy master bedroom with both the Rowe nesting tables as nightstands and the Cooper stools at the foot of the bed.

You gotta admit the Carson side table looks killer with a dark grey clean lined leather sofa.

I'm a sucker for the Elsa stool. Its a high quality take on the classic Thonet bentwood ottoman and was around years before rattan and caning became on trend. I used it in my first nursery design, as a seat in this recent built in makeup vanity, and in my own home office.

Convinced yet that Serena & Lily totally works in modern interiors? No...well then check out their goods in my own Cali cool home. I installed the Flynn sconces in my bedroom for an instant upgrade. I also use a lot of their heavier weight linen bedding year round. The natural colors work really well with my neutral organic modern color story. Finally, I'm a sucker for rattan. The Venice chair hits the right style notes and price points for me.

I'm happy to welcome a new showroom in Los Angeles that has recently opened in the Pacific Palisades Village. Its a really cute stand alone beach house to visit and get to know the brand. You may have seen from my Instagram feed the bits and bobs that caught my eye. When you go there, I will give my little cheat sheet for the items that I find to be sturdy and unique, less coastal and more cool (besides the ones I just mentioned). Now you see what I'm talking about, right? They are a a brand that "gets it" in my book. BTW - original art. They are an absurdly good source for original art to round out your gallery wall.
