I'm slowly becoming infatuated with the checkered tile pattern. It can certainly feel fuddy duddy, but lately I'm starting to see it in a fresh way that I can appreciate. It's such a simple pattern that can be as minimal and clean looking as you want it to be. Some ideas:
Doubling up for a bigger graphic statement like they do at Casa Pueblo Hotels
Go tonal and low contrast like Etc. For Short
Play with scale and colors like Nicole of Sketch Fourty Two
